Islam is the religion of coherence, amity and unity; its teachings call for fraternity and connectedness among its followers.
When the teachings of Islam from both its sources (The Qur'an and The Sunnah), were first revealed to the disciples (companions) of the prophet gradually after they embraced Islam, they left them keen on establishing and fostering the bonds of brotherhood amongst them, regardless of ethnic or racial differences, on the belief that only fidelity and fear of Allah would count (Al-Taqua)
"Verily the noblest and most graceful of you in the sight of Allah are those among you who are the best in conduct (the most pious: Muttaquin)" Translation of the meanings of the Qur'an verse (49 / 13)
The teachings of this religion have assigned strict duties upon every Muslim toward his Muslim brethren. In (Al-Bukhary) and (Muslim), AbuHurairah narrates that prophet Muhammad "Sallalahu Alihi wa sallam" said: Five things are rightful on every Muslim to his fellow Muslim: Returning the greeting, visiting the sick, following the funeral, answering the invitation, and blessing the sneezer" and in a narration by Al Baraa' Ibn Azeb an addition: "keeping with his oath, and triumphing for him whenever he is subject to injustice"
All those duties - when contemplated – are indeed fairly easy to abide with. They are highly effective in bringing hearts closer, and they cost virtually nothing. Not only so, they even promise of a great reward in the after life. This demonstrates clearly that Islam is indeed superior to all cultures in its conception of peace and of a brotherhood that is free from earthly interests.
